FISHERSONLINEART.COM is committed to offering buyers and sellers the lowest selling cost in the fine art auction market. Set out below is a summary of the fees that buyers and sellers may be responsible for when buying and selling artworks via FISHERSONLINEART.COM.
Total Cost Calculator
Our online bidding form displays a total cost calculator which estimates the total purchase price to buy an artwork - before the potential buyer places a bid.
In our Fine Art and Feature Auction auction categories the buyer is responsible for the cost of packaging, insurance, and freight. In some cases the actual cost of packaging and/or freight may vary from what is estimated eg if the buyer lives in a very remote region or overseas, or the artwork is an irregular shape. In these cases, send us an email and we will get a quote for you from our packaging and freight providers.
Registration
Only registered users can buy and sell art online. Registration is free.
Auction Appraisal
Sellers interested in offering artwork(s) for sale via our online auction may submit their artworks online for an obligation free auction appraisal, free of charge. Upon receiving your submission one of our specialist auction appraisers will contact you via email. Our email response will inform you whether your artwork has been accepted for auction, and if so, the auction category it has been accepted into, and our recommended auction estimate and reserve. If you agree to the value placed on your artwork and our Terms & Conditions, simply click on the link provided at the foot of the email. and you will then be prompted to pay our listing fee.
Listing Fee - Depends on the Reserve
The listing fee payable is dependent on the reserve price for your artwork:
- If the reserve is less or equal to NZ$3,000 the listing fee is NZ$20 per artwork submitted.
- If the reserve is greater than NZ$3,000 the listing fee is NZ$50 per artwork submitted.
- If the reserve is greater than NZ$20,000 the listing fee is NZ$100 per artwork submitted.
Each artwork receives a full page listing where detailed information about the artwork can be posted and up to 13 images of the artwork can be displayed. Each artwork is automatically linked to the artist’s biography and the artist’s past auction sale results. Bidders are also able to ask the seller questions about the artwork.
Should you require FISHERSONLINEART.COM to submit an artwork into our online auction and maintain the listing on your behalf, there is an additional fee of NZ$30.
Photography Fee - Optional
If you require FISHERSONLINEART.COM to photograph your artwork for you, there will be a charge of NZ$50 for the first artwork photographed, and NZ$10 for each subsequent artwork photographed at the same time. To have your artwork photographed by FISHERSONLINEART.COM, you would need to bring your artwork(s) into one of Fishers Fine Arts galleries in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch.

Buyer's Premium - 12% + GST
The successful bid is subject to a buyer's premium of 12% + GST on the hammer price. For example, a successful bid of $1000 has a buyer’s premium of $120 added to which the GST payable is $15, totalling $1,135. Our total cost calculator will display this value on the online bid form.
Item on fixed price offer are also subject to our buyer's premium which is calculated as a percentage of the "buy now" price and added to the "buy now" price.
Seller's Commission - 8% + GST
All artworks sold are subject to our seller’s commission of 8% + GST on the hammer price. For example a successful bid of $1,000 has a seller’s commission of $80.00, added to which GST payable is $10.00, totalling $90.00.
Item on fixed price offer are also subject to our seller's commission which is calculated as a percentage of the "buy now" price, and deducted from the "buy now" price.
Payment of the Total Purchase Price
For artworks sold in our Fine Art and Feature Auction auction categories, the buyer will be emailed an invoice for the total purchase price of the artwork. The total purchase price may include the following items:
- hammer price
- buyer's commission of 12% + GST
- picpac box
- insurance
- freight
Payment is required within 48 hours after the close of the relevant auction. Payment can be made by direct credit into FISHERSONLINEARTS.COM nominated account where the net sales proceeds will be held on trust for the seller.
For artworks sold in our Affordable Art auction category, the buyer will be sent an email detailing the total purchase price of the artwork. Payment is required within 48 hours after the close of the relevant auction, and can be made by clicking on the link provided in the email. The link will prompt the buyer to top up their personal FISHERSONLINEART.COM account for the amount of the total purchase using their credit card. This facility is provided by DPS, our secure online banking provider. The total purchase price for artworks sold in the Affordable Art auction category will normally include:
- hammer price
- buyer's premium of 12% + GST
Remittance to the Seller
Seller of artwork will be remitted the net sales proceeds at the end of the month following the month that payment was received - provided that the seller has made payment to FISHERSONLINEART.COM in cleared funds and the buyer's contratual right of return has expired. Sellers may elect whether to receive payment by cheque or direct credit. The net sales proceeds remitted to the seller is normally made up of the hammer price less the seller's commission of 8% + GST and any other costs incurred by the seller (eg the cost of a picpac box should the seller elect to purchase one).
FISHERSONLINEART.COM is obliged to hold payment to the seller until the end of the month following the month of payment to allow for the buyer to exercise the buyer's contractual right of return as stated in our Terms & Conditions.
